Capital Age Festival 2011 offered an exciting programme of diverse artists, with performances on the Main Stage and Gabriel's Wharf Bandstand as well as showcases of poetry and creative writing and of course a few surprises!

A coloured counter gave you a one-to-one performance of a joke, a useful tip, a story or a poem.

Blackfriars Nightingales
Blackfriars Nightingales are a group of older singers ranging in age from 70 - 90, formed in 2007.
Encore Encore
Passionate, pensionable and angry, Encore Encore sang protest songs with tongue firmly in cheek. Festival visitors were treated to their take on David Cameron, bankers and being 104 years old!

Intimate performances from older performers who shared stories of their lives all across the festival site.
Green Candle Senior Dancers
Green Candle Senior Dancers meet weekly at Oxford House in Bethnal Green, performing regularly in festivals around London. For Capital Age Festival 2011 they performed A Pauper's Dream, choreographed by Fergus Early, music by Eric Satie.

HMDT's The Hoxton Singers
HMDT’s The Hoxton Singers is a well-loved choir which began in Hoxton and has been singing together for over 15 years.
East London Dance's older people's company challenged our perceptions of older dancers and encouraged us to have fun.
Magic Me - Pen Friends
Magic Me bring older and younger people together for mutual enjoyment and benefit. The Pen Friends group meet weekly to learn skills in creative writing. Their creative writing was available in the Tea Tent to enjoy over a good cuppa.
Montage Theatre Arts
The Supertroupers presented The Good Old Days - a glorious song and dance medley with 20 dancers in full costume, including Flanagan and Allen, Harry Champion and Hello Dolly!
Poetry from Purple Poets decorated the Tea Tent and brought the poets thoughts on dance to the festival.
Riverside
Freddy Carvalho and his guys brought a jazz singalong selection for our participation and enjoyment. We sang, we danced, and some of us did both!
In unlikely spots around the festival, Theatre of the Absurd performances sprang up. Samuel Beckett met the Goons met Trigger Happy TV.
Spare Tyre
In their own comedic telling, Spare Tyre's company of older performers brought sauciness, singing and humanity to the Trojan Women.
Swing High All Stars
Dick Esmond presented some good-time jazz for dancing. Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Fats Waller classics gave a foot-stompin' end to the day.
Elsewhere
Stalls around the site shared information and advice, sold arts and crafts, and offered some delicious treats. Blackfriars Settlement were serving refreshments and food in the Tea Tent all afternoon.
